FRQs: Bad Habits

My Bad Habits? Good music, Twitter and Kerry Washington. You put the two together, and you have a great video (one I’ll be looping all weekend wishing I could’ve done the whole “Being John Malkovich” thing as Maxwell) for your FRQs.

The Five Questions:

1. What’s one 2009 song you feel will be a classic 10 years from now?

2. What celeb would you allow to be your life’s “Bad Habit?”

3. Who is your favorite President and why (Do not say President Obama)?

4. Name one movie that you’ve watched more than seven times.

5. What national landmark would you like to visit that you haven’t just yet?

Next week: Maybe Nick Cannon, maybe not … people who wake Cicely up while she’s sleeping … and some other stuff.

  1. 1. I know it technically came out in 2008, but I didn’t hear it until 09: Jason Mraz’s “A Beautiful Mess” …

    2. Umm… did you not watch the video? Her name is Kerry, and I called her long ago.

    3. Johnson, not Andrew.

    4. Jerry Maguire, and anytime it comes on, I must watch. I still laugh at the “Show Me The Money” scene …

    5. The Grand Canyon …

  2. 1. Maxwell’s “Pretty Wings”, it’s a beautiful song and has a sound that will be able to stand the test of time.

    2. Common…yum…*swoons*

    3. I don’t have a favorite president. If I were to randomly name one as my favorite it would be a lie.

    4. The Color Purple

    5. I’ve seen the Statue of Liberty but I would like the chance to actually go inside of it.

    • @Tam:

I can definitely get with your #1 and #2. Nice. I loved him in Smoking Aces.

As for your #5, I went in the Statue of Liberty but only to her crown…I opted not to climb more stairs to go in her torch. I think I saw on the news recently that the construction is done and she’s been reopened for visitors.

    • @tam: I really believe there are gonna be a lot of guys who just play Pretty Wings to break up with a girl …

    • @Tam…. #2 I agree wholeheartedly lol

  3. Hey, y’all.

    1. Anthony Hamilton’s “The Point of it All”…not sure it’ll be a classic in the popular sense but I’d like it to be. I love this song.

    2. Denzel Washington…no disrespect intended, Mrs. Washington. 🙂

    3. Clinton…first presidential campaign I worked on & first president I voted for.

    4. You’ve Got Mail

    5. Mount Rushmore

  4. 1. Let me think…..Beyonce “Single Ladies” LOL
    2. Channing Tatum. Hush!
    3. Clinton…I am not explaining.
    4. Breakfast at Tiffany’s
    5. Statue of Liberty

  5. Damon,

Did you get my email earlier? How ironic…

    Anyway,

    1. What’s one 2009 song you feel will be a classic 10 years from now?

Honestly, I think ‘Pretty Wings’ will go down as that classic breakup song of this decade. Maxwell gave us a masterpiece of collective soul and ‘Bad Habits’ also gets heavy rotation on the pod.

    2. What celeb would you allow to be your life’s “Bad Habit?”

Not sure if he’s a true ‘celeb’ but T.J. Holmes from CNN is a beautiful man. I love my beau but T.J. is the business!

    3. Who is your favorite President and why (Do not say President Obama)?

    Well duh!? Mr. Bill Clinton…

    4. Name one movie that you’ve watched more than seven times.

Many movies have been watched more than seven times by me, but ‘Friday’ is the first one that comes to mind…

    5. What national landmark would you like to visit that you haven’t just yet?

    Niagara Falls

    • @jlbd: Hey, girl! Where have you been?

      • Hey Shawnta’

Girl, I’ve been sick the past couple of days…haven’t even had time to blog. I was at home all day yesterday and left work early today. Some kind of bug has me hemmed up!

        • @jlbd: Well, you’ve been missed. Glad to have you back…hope that means you’re feeling better or at least on your way to feeling better so you can enjoy the weekend. 🙂

          • Thanks girl. I’m still feeling a little yuck, but I plan to have a good weekend regardless. You do the same! 🙂

    • @jlbd: Um … I got the e-mail, and i never got around to saying thank you … so thank you much. I love Kerry.

    • @jlbd: Yep, Friday could have been on my list too. I also want to see Niagara Falls.

    • Niagra Falls is great but be sure to get your passport because the view is exponentially better on the Canadian side. Plus on the Canadian Side you get right next to the event horizon of the horseshoe falls (the main part of Niagra Falls)

    • natural nubian

i always say the Lord spent a lil extra time creating TJ Holmes. beauty & smarts like that are not a commodity.

  6. I know this isn’t a U.S. monument but I really want to see the Great Pyramids at some point in my life.

  7. 1. Single Ladies (sorry; first song that popped into my head)

    2. Idris Elba, hands down

    3. Clinton

    4. Last Dragon

    5. Yosemite Park

BTW, Damon, I’m mad you put me on the spot. I guess I’ll just have to finish that letter now *smh*

  8. 1. Hearltess- Because each cover has been better than the last and they’ll only keep on comin.

    2. Since someone already said Channing Tatum, the answer is Tyson Beckford. He is without a doubt the most beautiful man on the planet.

    3. Clinton. Cuz it’s been 8 years and we still miss him.

    4. The Sandlot

    5. The statue of liberty. Been to NYC, but I wanna go up. Can you even still do that?

  9. 1. um, mainstream: i’ll go w/ drake & trey songz’s “successful”. non-MS: i’m gonna go on a limb & say whatever’s the strongest record from eric roberson’s next effort. i got this feeling….

    2. @jlbd & @aye got my 1 & 2 (*sigh*), but i’ll gladly settle for mr. michael ealy. gladly.

    3. clinton (it’s unanimous) and john adams. him & abigail had that ride or die type love. haha.

    4. sister act 2. one word: lauryn.

    5. i’ve never been to DC…. i’d also want to see yellowstone & old faithful.

  10. 1. Meh.
    2. Olivia Munn (I’m a nerd/geek)
    3. Ole Abe
    4. This list is like a foot deep for me. I’ll list the one that I’m watching right now…The Return of the King (Special Extended Edition)
    5. Mt Rushmore.

  11. Going back to #4…I was just thinking, as I was sitting here listening to the news report again about John Hughes’ death, I’ve seen many of his movies 7 times or more. All of those brat pack movies Pretty In Pink, Sixteen Candles, Breakfast Club & Ferris Bueller’s Day Off…all classic & all nostalgic.

@damon: I know, I know, I know…I was ALMOST able to not give more than one answer. Y’all should know me better than that by now. 🙂

  12. 1. Maxwell’s ‘Playing Possum’ -or- Mos Def’s ‘Life in Marvelous Times’ (or ‘Casa Bey’).

    2. dang, only one? columbus short.

    3. i don’t think i have one…*thinks about it* nope.

    4. cosignature on The Sandlot. if it’s on, i must watch it, no questions asked. also Superbad. it’s been on TV a lot lately.

    5. Niagra Falls.

    • @spottieottiedojo: I love your #1 and as far as #2 goes…nope, you can have more than one. LOL…let me stop before @damon bans me from TMCY.

    • @spottie: “Playing Possum” is my fav song on that album… by far …

And yes, just one. Don’t pay attention to Shawnta. lol. …

And I find it beyond awesome that two women have picked the Sandlot as a must watch …

  13. 1. What’s one 2009 song you feel will be a classic 10 years from now?

Whatever that song is talking about “My ship has finally come”

    2. What celeb would you allow to be your life’s “Bad Habit?”

Kinda cliche but Ms. Beeerrryyyy…Ms Berry

    3. Who is your favorite President and why (Do not say President Obama)?

Clinton because he is Center-Left like me and dude gets stuff accomplished and doesn’t seem to back down for nobody. Clinton should be the next “American Gangster”

    4. Name one movie that you’ve watched more than seven times.

I absolutely love “The Ladies Man” not to mention my LB looks a lot like Sweet Leon Phelps (and he likes fish sandwiches too)

    5. What national landmark would you like to visit that you haven’t just yet?

Cooperstown, NY. Got to pay homage and perhaps a sacrifice for the baseball Gods so the Royals can finally win.

    • Cooperstown is amazing. Even if you’re not a baseball fan, it’s an amazing place. Way better than Springfield, MA or Canton, OH too…

    • That’s K-Jon’s ‘On The Ocean” … and Monica randomly clowned me for liking that song yesterday… It’s a good song …

and thanks to you, Kyle and Travis for bringing some male perspective to question No. 2. I was starting to have to skip over the answers … smh

    • Oh and Forrest Gump is also one of my favorite movies.

  14. 1. Kings of Leon “Sex on Fire” or George Strait “I Saw God Today”
    2. Carrie Underwood
    3. Teddy Roosevelt
    4. Major League – I’m well over 20 on this. Same with Tombstone, Animal House and Rocky IV.
    5. The Grand Canyon

  15. natural nubian

    4. movie watched 7+times?
    love jones

    5. national landmark?
    hiking the volcanoes in hawaii

  16. 1. At gunpoint, I’ll take Musiq Soulchild & Mary J. Blige “If U Leave”, although that may be 2008. Music sucks today.

    2. Can’t argue with Kerry.

    3. None. Maybe Thomas Jefferson because of his libertarian ideals, but like most presidents pre-Gerald Ford, he was racist. He wasn’t Woodrow Wilson racist, but racist nonetheless.

    4. Coming To America.

    5. Statue of Liberty (never been to NYC).

  17. 1. I haven’t been listening to a lot of new music, but I want to mention Chocolate Box off of LotusFlow3r.

    2. Michael Ealy and/or CP3 (New Orleans Hornets)

    3. Does it have to be President of the US? I will do a two-prong answer
    1. Nelson Mandela…. for obvious reasons, but mostly his resilience, strength and faith in beliefs are all too often lacking in African presidents (in general).
    2. From the US, Jimmy Carter: his values align with mine and his presidency was really misunderstood… but I do think he’s a brilliant mind and a kind soul.

    4. Working Girl.

    5. The Grand Canyon.

  18. 1. “Make The Trap Say Aye” by Sir OJ, the Man Who Provides Juice.

    2. I would say my long-time hubby Denzel, but recently, it’s been my man on side Idris Elba.

    3. I can’t say I have one. I would say Clinton because in grammar school, we had this mock election (during the Clinton-H.W. Bush-Perot 1992 one) and they passed out pieces of paper for us to vote. I knew I was a Democrat at age 8, and yeah, it was pretty much because my mama told me so. lol

    4. The Lion King. Know that joint WORD for WORD. I can probably do a one-woman-show of it on command.

    5. Grand Canyon. We almost went this year as a fam, but the money wasn’t all the way right and we don’t wanna half-arse it. Soon, though I’ll probably bust out crying when I see it, it looks like a frickin’ miracle.

    • @Cheekie

We had a mock election at my school too during that time and Bush won by a landslide, with Perot coming in second and Clinton with a measly two votes (one of them was mine). I went to a Catholic school though, so that could be the reasoning…oh well, we know who won in the real election!

  19. @shawnta: it was so hard narrowing down just one person for #2. as soon as i pressed submit, i turned on the TV and “This Christmas” was on, i kid you not!

@damon: Playing Possum is -the- jam. my favorite on the album as well.
and The Sandlot is in my top-5 movies of all time. last summer i was watching it with my mom and i was reciting every line. she looked at me and said, “You must really like this movie, huh?!” she just doesn’t know…
    YOU’RE KILLING ME SMALLS!

  20. Good post, I say. Now on to the answers:

1- I dunno. I’ve liked a lot of them, but there isn’t one I can immediately think of that has any impact. I’ve been listening to the oldies way too much. Can I say “The Breakfast Song,” since I ‘discovered’ it this year? You gotta admit, no mo’ nuts of grapes is classic…

2- Lawd, I’ve had this kind of weird thing for Lenny since I’ve been a wee Beez, and it still carries over. That Lance Gross, too…

3- Clinton, because he came to East St. Louis and spoke at the Walgreen’s on 25th (and my people wouldn’t let me go so I had to watch it on TV). *kicks can*

4- One? I can’t name one. Bur for simplicity’s sake, I’ll say Forrest Gump:

    Forrest? Why did this happen?
    …you got shot.

    5. What national landmark would you like to visit that you haven’t just yet?

    • I forgot to answer #5, but there are a lot of these, because I’ve been visited more outside the country more than I’ve seen inside the country. I’ve fallen asleep in Paris, and woken up in Tokyo literally, but haven’t seen the White House. FMTL.

  21. 1. What’s one 2009 song you feel will be a classic 10 years from now?
    Nothing … lol.

    2. What celeb would you allow to be your life’s “Bad Habit?”
    Common

    3. Who is your favorite President and why (Do not say President Obama)?
Bill Clinton. In my 24 years on this earth, I’ve been aware of 2 Bushes, a Clinton, and an Obama.

    4. Name one movie that you’ve watched more than seven times.
Forest Gump. That’s a damn good movie.

    5. What national landmark would you like to visit that you haven’t just yet?
Las Vegas, lol, is that not a landmark? Oh well.

  22. 1. N/A – I stopped being interested in new music a long time ago and am not really familiar with new stuff, other than what gets super popular. Still listening to a lot of MJ.

    2. N/A – all my celeb crushes have faded.

    3. I considered JFK but settled on Clinton. He ultimately knew how to get stuff done and build consensus. Its so sad that the most gifted people seem to be the most tragically flawed personally though.

    4. Coming to America

    5. The White House, been near it and seen it but not visited.

  23. Twitter’s not a habit… it’s an addiction.

So we can’t really be blamed for it, can we? 😉

  24. The Five Questions:

    1. What’s one 2009 song you feel will be a classic 10 years from now?
I agree with “Pretty Wings”… but I absolutely love “Her Heart” off of Anthony Hamilton’s The Point of it All album

    2. What celeb would you allow to be your life’s “Bad Habit?”
Although I agree with Tam’s choice of Common… I’ll go with Shemar Moore. Had a crush on him since I used to watch Young and the Restless with my grandma LOL

    3. Who is your favorite President and why (Do not say President Obama)?
Bush (solely for comedic purposes)…. but truthfully Clinton because when he left we actually had a surplus of money. So where did it go?

    4. Name one movie that you’ve watched more than seven times.
    Harlem Nights

    5. What national landmark would you like to visit that you haven’t just yet?
    Mount Rushmore

  25. 1. To me this will always be the year of Michael Jackson. So I will pick any of his joints.

    2. I have been in love with Denzel since I was about 6 for one thing- swagger(and I hate that word).

    3. Clinton b/c I had just become a teenager and interested in the political process when he became elected.

    4. Malcolm X. See #2 I will watch that movie from whatever point to the last ” I am Malcolm X!” I will even watch the TV version which is about 6 hours long.

    5. The grand canyon.

  26. . What’s one 2009 song you feel will be a classic 10 years from now?
    • The Fray “you found me”
    2. What celeb would you allow to be your life’s “Bad Habit?”
Takeshi Kaneshiro ♥ ( Someone said Common,)
    3. Who is your favorite President and why (Do not say President Obama)?\
I can honestly say I do not have one.
    4. Name one movie that you’ve watched more than seven times.
    Oh man… Almost famous.
    5. What national landmark would you like to visit that you haven’t just yet?
I can not pick just one…I want to see as many as possible.

    * By the way, I like you blog. Very cool.
